Legendary actor Paul Newman will be joining the Hole In The Ground Gang, after losing a battle to cancer, Friday night. John Cowan notified Jon Graney, retaking the DeathWatch lead. Newman was known for his roles in The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and of course, Slap Shot. He also raced cars and had a line of salad dressings and spaghetti sauces. Sockarooni, Paul! He was 83.

BOTH HIT 100 SAME DAY

BREAKING NEWS! Both offices of DeathWatch reported their 100th celebrity death on the same day. The feat was 15 years in the making, with John Cowan hitting #100 with Jerry Reed, and Jon Graney making the mark only minutes later with Don LaFontaine. The history-making blurbs are below.

Don LaFontaine won't need to renew his Geico insurance this year. That's because the "king of voiceovers" died Sept. 1 from a blood clot in his lungs. LaFontaine was known for his trademark "In a world..." movie trailer voiceovers, as well as a recent Geico commercial. Jon Graney notified John Cowan, tying him at 100 on the DeathWatch Tally. Jerry Reed, who played Cledus "Snowman" Snow in Smokey and the Bandit, died Sept. 1 from complications of emphysema. John Cowan notified John Cowan, being the first of the two to hit 100 in the DeathWatch Tally. Breaker, breaker...broken. Snowman was 71.

ISAAC HAYES GETS THE SHAFT

Shut yo mouth! Soul legend Isaac Hayes died while on a treadmill, Aug. 10. John Cowan notified Jon Graney. Isaac Hayes was known for his soul career -- including the theme to Shaft -- but more importantly provided the voice of Chef on South Park. He left the show in 2006 after South Park poked fun of Scientology. May God have mercy on his Hot Buttered Soul. Hayes was 65.

MAC ATTACK

The "king" of comedy has been dethroned. Comedian Bernie Mac died, Aug. 9, from complications of pneumonia. Jon Graney notified John Cowan. Mac starred in The Original Kings of Comedy, Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen. Chances are he will NOT appear in Ocean's Fourteen. Call it a hunch. Mac's publicist said just days ago that Bernie was stable and recovering from the illness. In unrelated news, Hollywood's worst publicist is seeking employment. Mac was 50.

SEVEN WORDS HE'LL NEVER SAY NOW

Another stand-up falls down. Comedian George Carlin died of heart failure, June 22. Jon Graney notified John Cowan. Carlin was known for decades of stand-up comedy, including his routine, "The Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV." Carlin's publicist said he knew something was wrong when Carlin grabbed his chest and shouted, "Sh*t! P*ss! F*ck! C*nt! C*cksucker! Motherf*cker! T*ts!" Carlin was 71.
