Welcome to the Garden Project, in which two old raised garden beds will get new life. The beds
had not been planted in two seasons, allowing invasive weeds to take them over.

My original plan was to rebuild the beds with wood, but seeing the amount of decay -- and how
quickly they deteriorated in the last couple of years, I decided to go in a different direction.

The beds were surrounded by gravel walkways that were also getting covered by weeds.

A view from the other side shows how much the weeds had taken over.

Lying in one of the beds was a trellis I plan to revitalize and return to the garden.

First, all the weeds needed to be removed.

This took the better part of a day.

I also removed the weeds from the gravel walkways, then moved the gravel to areas of the back
driveway that needed extra stones.

With the weeds gone, work turned to removing the weed barrier from the walkways.

The fabric was piled in one of the beds for disposal, while the rest of the gravel was moved to the driveway.

With the weeds gone, the damaged wood is exposed.

The beds had been patched and staked over the years by the previous homeowner in an attempt
to prolong their life.

The new beds will be made out of composite material which should last decades.

At the end of the day, the weeds were gone, the old trellis removed, and the extra gravel repurposed.
