Removing the old carpet left a decision: New carpet or hardwood floors? After discovering that the
installers of the last carpet used hundreds of padding staples all around the room, the decision
became easier...new carpet. Meanwhile, a new door jamb is installed to accept the new doors.

Despite the staples, which all had to be removed, the floors aren't in bad shape. But they would
require complete refinishing, and with hardwood in most of the house, a new carpet will be nice.

With the jamb installed, the doors were next. The biggest pain about this part was the chiseling
for the hinges. It takes time and patience, neither of which I have in abundance.

The old doors totaled 47 inches across. Rebuilding the jamb opimized the rough opening, grabbing
an extra 1/2 inch, so these doors aren't only nicer...they're actually a little bigger.

I went with brushed nickel for the hardware and hinges. The style follows the style of the other
paddle-style doorknobs in the house, which are polished brass. I didn't want polished brass in here.

The doors latch at the top of the door using spring-loaded ball catches.

Then the casing went around the door.

With the nail holes filled, the new closet doors are ready for paint.
